Job Description

Under the direction of the Director of Mission or Director of Spiritual Care, the Chaplain II ministers to patients, families, and staff around religious and spiritual needs. As an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, the chaplain provides spiritual care and emotional support within the context of illness, crisis, loss, and death. The chaplain is committed to the Mission and models its core values. Essential Functions include recognizing the sacramental needs of the Catholic population, providing for religious and ritual needs of diverse faith groups, ministering to a diverse population in a non-proselytizing manner, collaborating with team members and interdisciplinary team including appropriate referrals, providing advanced pastoral care and counseling techniques, participating in clinical care conferences addressing spiritual and emotional aspects of care, conducting full-spectrum spiritual care assessment and care planning, providing spiritual interventions in end-of-life and crisis situations, coordinating pastoral care resources, providing Advanced Care Planning consultations, documenting clinically relevant information in Electronic Medical Records, and adhering to Ethical and Religious Directives of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and Bon Secours Mercy Health policies. The position requires 24/7 call with expectations for holidays and weekends. Education required is a Master’s degree in Religious, Divinity, or Theology; Doctoral degree preferred. Required licensing includes 3 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE). Experience required is 1 year as a Chaplain in healthcare and ecclesial endorsement from church body. Completion of lay ministry or ordination process is preferred.
