Process Engineer

DSW, a leading manufacturing partner in Birmingham, AL, specializing in precision laser cutting, plasma cutting, bending, welding, and more, is seeking a highly motivated Process Engineer to optimize our manufacturing operations and ensure the highest quality standards. This role is critical to our continuous improvement initiatives and will also manage our Quality Assurance team.

Responsibilities:

  • Process Optimization & Improvement:
  • Design, develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes (laser/plasma cutting, bending, welding) to boost efficiency, cut costs, and improve quality.
  • Analyze processes to identify bottlenecks and propose solutions for increased productivity and reduced waste.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects, applying Lean and Six Sigma principles.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Monitor process performance metrics and troubleshoot issues, including root cause analysis.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies and equipment.
  • Quality Assurance Leadership & Management:
  • Directly supervise and mentor our team of QA Technicians , fostering a culture of quality.
  • Ensure all products meet quality standards through robust testing and inspection.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering to integrate quality control.
  • Oversee documentation of quality issues and facilitate resolutions.
  • Lead process validation activities.
  • Support equipment calibration.
  • Work cross-functionally with R&D, Production, and Sales for seamless integration.

Required Qualifications:

  • 4-year Engineering Degree (e.g., Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing or related).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage and mentor a technical team.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and quality management systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Process Engineer in a manufacturing environment, especially metal fabrication.
  • Experience with process optimization methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, SPC).
  • Experience with laser cutting, plasma cutting, or metal bending processes.
