The Priest Chaplain is an ordained Roman Catholic priest granted faculties by the local Bishop. As an integral part of the Spiritual Care Services Department, ministers to the religious, spiritual, and emotional needs of patients, families and caregivers; administers sacramental ministry to Catholic patients and their families, and provides Eucharistic Liturgy for patients, families, caregivers and visitors. Essential duties include providing Catholic ritual and sacraments, ensuring the chapel and sacred space function appropriately for liturgy and worship, celebrating Mass, providing paraliturgical services, preparing homilies, working with volunteers for the Sacrament of the Eucharist, administering the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick and documenting it, responding to requests for Sacrament of Reconciliation, fostering Catholic spirituality opportunities for caregivers, maintaining Sacramental Registry as necessary, tracking sacramental data, developing and documenting spiritual assessments and interventions, participating in interdisciplinary teams, responding to crisis situations, visiting patients and families of all or no religious backgrounds, supporting Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Services, maintaining community clergy partnerships, upholding core commitments of Intermountain Health, collaborating within the Spiritual Care department, participating in meetings and hospital committees, promoting mission and values, assisting with quality improvement plans, adjusting schedules for on-call responsibilities, promoting teamwork, maintaining policies and documentation in electronic medical records. Minimum qualifications include a Masters Degree in Divinity, Theology or related field, ordination to the Catholic Priesthood with endorsement of good standing from the local Diocese, and preferably four units of Clinical Pastoral Education. Two years of hospital priest experience is preferred.
