SUMMARY This position performs law enforcement functions regarding animal and parking enforcement services, assists police officers in non-emergency situations, handles cold criminal calls for service per union contract agreement, and performs special assignments as directed by management.

- Enforces all RCW and Marysville Municipal Code laws related to animals. Investigates all crimes against animals and takes appropriate enforcement action. This includes but is not limited to; seizure of victim animals as evidence, medical evidence collection, crime scene photography and processing, search warrant service, completes case and arrest reports and testifies in court. Responds to and investigates all civil calls for service related to animals including but not limited to; dangerous and aggressive animals, leash and license violations, noisy animals, injured animals, farmed animals, and property requirements.
- Enforces all RCW and Marysville Municipal Code laws related to parking. This includes but is not limited to; abandoned vehicles and impoundment, blocking disabled vehicles, junk vehicles, a variety of civil right of way violations, handicap zones and fire lanes.
- Responds to and investigates a variety of not in progress criminal calls for service per union contract. This includes theft, vehicle prowl, and malicious mischief complaints. Takes written statements, crime scene photographs, and completes case reports. Handles other not in progress criminal calls for service as directed by a supervisor.
- Testifies in court.
- Responds to and resolves traffic safety related issues including but not limited to; Traffic Hazards, Traffic control signs down, inoperable traffic lights and railroad safety devices (crossing arms), sight distance issues, and requests for extra patrol related to fast traffic.
- Assists Police Officers at traffic collisions.
- Handles civil non-injury non-blocking collisions (exchange of information).
- Processes found property, completes case reports, and provides information to property crimes division when applicable.
- Performs special assignments and participates in community oriented policing events. This includes but is not limited to; Coffee with a Cop, National Night Out, and occasionally attends community neighborhood meetings to provide information associated with the Community Service Unit.
Qualifications A combination of the experience, education, and training which provides an equivalent background to perform the work of this position.
Experience: - Any experience related to working with animals is highly preferred.
Education and Training: - High school diploma or GED certificate is required.
Licenses or Certificates: - Must possess, or have the ability to possess by date of hire, a current and valid Washington State Driver's License.
- Must have successfully completed, or have the ability to complete the Washington State Animal Control Academy.
Other Qualifications: - Must be able to successfully pass an extensive background check, polygraph examination, and medical exam.
- Must be able to successfully pass the City's civil service examination process for Community Service Officer.
- Must be at least 20 ½ years of age by date of application.
- Must have no felony convictions.
- Must be a citizen of the United States of America or a lawful permanent resident by date of application.
- Must be able to work a variety of scheduled shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.

The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis; lift 25 to 75 pounds on an occasional basis; and lift and/or move 75 - 100 pounds rarely or in emergency situations Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, night vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
This position works both in an office and outside in a variety of weather conditions. The employee regularly works in or near moving traffic and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, or toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee may be exposed to vicious or otherwise dangerous animals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
This position works a regular schedule, however, incumbents may be called in to work at irregular times in emergency situations.
