The Barber College of Science, Art, and Technology is seeking a passionate and experienced Barber Instructor to join our instructional team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in professional barbering, excellent communication skills, and a genuine desire to teach and mentor future barbers. About the Role

Part-time Barber Instructors play a vital role in delivering high-quality education that meets Virginia State Board of Barbers and Cosmetology standards. Instructors are responsible for fostering an engaging and inclusive atmosphere where students can develop the technical expertise, creativity, and professionalism needed for success in the barbering industry.
Courses may be scheduled during daytime or evening hours and may include both classroom and lab instruction. Typical schedules range from 3 to 17.5 hours per week, depending on course assignments and program needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction in haircutting, shaving, grooming, and sanitation practices.
• Prepare lesson plans and course materials aligned with Virginia licensing and curriculum requirements.
• Demonstrate technical skills and ensure safe, hygienic, and compliant lab operations.
• Evaluate student performance, provide constructive feedback, and maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and progress.
• Cultivate a positive learning environment that encourages professionalism, creativity, and confidence.
• Collaborate with other instructors and leadership on program development, assessment, and student success initiatives.
• Stay current with emerging trends, tools, and technologies in the barbering industry.
• Participate in professional development activities and maintain required licensure and certifications.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current Virginia Barber License
• Current Virginia Barber Instructor License (or eligibility to obtain)
• At least two years (4,000 hours) of recent professional experience as a licensed barber
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
• A passion for education, mentorship, and student development

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in Barbering or a related discipline
• Previous teaching, training, or supervisory experience
• Experience managing or operating a barbershop or salon
• Proficiency with learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Moodle) and instructional technology

Compensation

Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
This is a part-time position; benefits are not included.
