Aircraft Mechanic (Uh-72a)

This job opportunity is for an aircraft mechanic (UH-72A), position description D2390000, within the AASF of the New Jersey Army National Guard. This vacancy announcement is a Title 32, excepted service position. The purpose of this position is to act as the aircraft mechanic (crew chief) with responsibility for managing the operational readiness of one or more aircraft, and proficiency training of supported aviation unit personnel.

Opening and closing dates: 04/30/2025 to 08/29/2025.

Salary: $34.69 - $40.58 per hour.

Location: 1 vacancy in Lakehurst, NJ.

This job is open to federal employees - excepted service. This vacancy announcement is for a dual-status technician position which requires active membership in the New Jersey National Guard (uniformed military service). Official appointment is not effective until membership within the New Jersey National Guard is confirmed by the gaining human resources office.

As an aircraft mechanic (UH-72A), WG-8852-12, you will:

  • prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and support exercises.
  • manage, monitor or perform overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more highly technical, high performance military aircraft.
  • ensure unit level logistics-aviation (ULLS-A) and other aircraft documentation accurately reflects status and airworthiness of assigned aircraft.
  • launch, recovers, parks, and services aircraft.
  • diagnose and solve malfunctions of aircraft systems and components by utilizing a wide variety of complex, state of the art computerized and/or non-computerized test measurement diagnostic equipment (TMDE).
  • plan, develop, and conduct proficiency training during the technician work week to a multi-faceted workforce comprised of full time support (FTS) and supported unit personnel.
  • work with, coordinate and oversee the work of lower graded aircraft mechanics and certifies the work of journey level workers in other trades working on the assigned aircraft.
  • serve as the technical authority to identify and advise on requirements for airframe, mechanical, electrical/environmental, avionics, engine, and pneudraulic repairs on assigned aircraft.
  • work closely with maintenance supervisor(s) and production control personnel to report and maintain current aircraft status.

compatible military grade and assignment required before the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's national guard. areas of consideration: all permanent, on-board, title 32 employees within aasf. military grades: sgt/e-5 to msg/e-8. additional employment requirements: participation in direct deposit is mandatory. may be required to successfully complete a probationary period. federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. males born after 31 december 1959 must be registered for selective service. pre-placement physical requirement: a pre-placement physical will be required for anyone selected for this position. placement into the position will not be made until results are received.

general experience: must have general experience or training that has provided you with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. specialized experience: must have at least 24 months experience or training in the following:

  • installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing various major and minor mechanical and pnuedraulic systems on an aircraft
  • coordinating the work of other mechanics
  • scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow
  • ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military, and other personnel
  • knowledge of disassembly and re-assembly of the following:
    • crashed dummy engines
    • transmissions
    • gearboxes
    • hydraulic components
    • fuel controls
